Guala Closures is targeting the wine and spirits markets with a tamper-evident roll-on screw cap.
The closure, which Guala has been developing for the past year, incorporates a coloured plastic ring that appears between the bottle neck and the closure once the bottle is opened.
Guala marketing manager Anne Seznec said wine counterfeiting was a growing concern and highlighted estimates that up to 5% of fine wines sold were fake.
"Traditionally this market had shied away from alternative closures, but if they can help find a solution to what is a very real problem then they have to be worth considering," she said.
The closure design has been changed slightly to differentiate from a standard one, but the firm said application was unaffected and the price difference was "negligible".
Guala expects the closure to be immediately popular in both the wine and fine spirits sectors.
Guala has 21 production facilities worldwide and produces more than eight billion closures a year. It moved into screwcaps in 2003.
